Top 3 Places to Eat in Beddgelert

Beddgelert may be a small village, but it has some excellent places to eat — whether you’re after a café stop before a walk, a special evening meal, or something easy to take back to the cottage. These are my three favourites, all tried and tested by guests staying at Perthi Holiday Cottages in Beddgelert.

1. Caffi Gwynant – Café at the Watkin Path Trailhead

Best for: Breakfast, lunch, coffee & cake
Location: Nant Gwynant, just outside Beddgelert

Caffi Gwynant sits at the start of the Watkin Path, one of the classic routes up Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), making it a natural stop for walkers heading up or coming back down the mountain. It’s set in a converted chapel in the Gwynant Valley and has a great atmosphere — especially after a long day on the hill.

The menu focuses on fresh, locally sourced produce: good coffee, homemade cakes, pasties and hearty hot meals. Dogs are welcome outside under the glass canopy, and gluten-free options are available.

It’s just outside Beddgelert and easy to reach by car, but you can also walk there directly from the village — a lovely flat route along the river past Llyn Dinas, which is worth a swim on warm days.

“The full English breakfast here is a great start before a big walk — proper fuel before heading up Snowdon. Worth combining with the Llyn Dinas walk on a shorter day too.”
— Delyth, Perthi Holiday Cottages

Opening hours: Closed Monday and Tuesday. Open Wednesday to Sunday from 9am — hours vary by day and season, so check their website before you go. Friday evenings have live music and Saturday is open mic night.

2. Bistro Hebog – Relaxed Fine Dining in the Village

Best for: Evening meals, special occasions
Location: In Beddgelert village

Bistro Hebog offers a more refined dining experience right in the heart of Beddgelert. It’s an independent, family-run restaurant with a focus on fresh, high-quality food prepared with care — the kind of place that feels like a treat without being overdressed about it.

It’s slightly pricier than the cafés and takeaway options in the village, but well worth it for a special evening out during your stay. Being right in the village, it’s an easy walk from nearby accommodation — no need to drive.

“If the duck is on the menu, order it. It’s not always there but when it is, it’s the standout dish. Worth booking ahead in summer — it fills up quickly.”
— Delyth, Perthi Holiday Cottages

3. Glaslyn Artisan Ice Cream & Pizza – A Village Institution Since 1970

Best for: Pizza, ice cream, takeaway, families
Location: In Beddgelert village

Glaslyn has been making ice cream in Beddgelert since 1970, making it the oldest ice cream parlour and pizzeria in Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park. Everything is made on site in small batches using fresh Welsh milk from a local farm — around 20 flavours at any one time, including dairy-free vegan sorbets. The ice cream really is exceptional.

The pizzeria side is equally good — fresh bases, quality toppings, and Glaslyn is now licensed so you can have a local beer, Welsh cider or Italian wine with your pizza. Families are very welcome, large groups can book ahead, and there’s both indoor and outdoor seating by the river.

Many of our guests pick up pizza or ice cream here and bring it back to the cottages — it travels well and the portions are generous.

“Glaslyn ice cream has become part of the Beddgelert experience for most guests. The blackcurrant sorbet and the salted caramel are the ones people come back for.”
— Delyth, Perthi Holiday Cottages

Opening hours: Hours vary by season and are updated regularly — check the Glaslyn website for current times before visiting. Generally closed Tuesday and Wednesday in quieter periods.

Before You Go

  • Always check opening times before heading out — hours change seasonally and midweek closures are common outside summer
  • Book ahead for Bistro Hebog in peak season
  • Both Caffi Gwynant and Glaslyn have good options for dietary requirements including gluten-free and vegan

All three are easily reached from Perthi Holiday Cottages in Beddgelert. If you’re staying with us and want a current recommendation — whether somewhere is open that week, or what to order — just ask when you arrive.
